Safe Alternative to Soap and Detergent
Before the dawn of large-scale manufacturing, liquid soaps were made from saponins, foaming, sudsy substances found in the roots of soapwort, soapberry, and yucca. The typical liquid dishwashing soap bought from the grocery store is made from a petroleum distillate, a toxic pollutant and nonrenewable resource. This product is actually a detergent, not soap. The safe and natural alternative is a vegetable-based soap called castile, a pure soap made from coconut or olive oil. (more…)
